NHIS automatically enrolled me as a student — premium and how to see a GP
Heads up for D-2 students: after 6 months you're auto-enrolled in National Health Insurance (NHIS). I got a bill for about 75,000 won/month. You can't opt out. The card comes by post to your registered address. To see a doctor just walk into any 의원 (local clinic), show the card or your ARC, pay maybe 5,000-15,000 won after coverage. Pharmacies are separate — you take the prescription next door.

Can you pay the NHIS premium by auto-transfer? The paper giro slips keep getting lost.
-
Yes, set up CMS auto-debit on the NHIS site or call 1577-1000 (English line available).

Big tip: dermatology and dental cosmetic stuff is mostly NOT covered. Ask the price first.
